How to open a Dutch bank account

You'll usually need a Dutch bank account (an IBAN) for your salary, rent, and the direct debits (automatische incasso) that run everyday life here — from your health insurance to your phone bill.

Order matters: most traditional banks ask for your BSN and proof of a registered Dutch address — both of which come from registering with your municipality first.

How it fits your move

Register with your municipality → get your BSN → then open the bank account. Once you have the account, you can set up the direct debits that most Dutch services expect.
