The short version. The information you enter in ResideNL — your onboarding answers, task progress, and document dates — stays only on your device. We don't require an account and we never sell your data. The app also sends us anonymous, aggregate usage statistics (like which screens are opened) to help us improve it; these never include anything you typed. You can turn this off any time in Profile > Privacy.
ResideNL ("ResideNL", "we", "us") is a mobile app that helps international residents work out and keep track of the administrative steps involved in moving to and living in the Netherlands. This policy explains how the app handles your information.
When you use ResideNL, the following is stored locally on your device only — it is never sent to us:
ResideNL is designed to store status rather than sensitive identifiers. It does not ask for, and you should not enter, your BSN, passport number, driving-licence number, tax ID, bank-account number, or exact home address.
Separately from the information above, ResideNL sends us anonymous usage events — for example, that onboarding was started and completed, that a checklist was generated, or that the app was opened again a few days later. We use these in aggregate (not to look at any one installation individually) to tell whether the app is actually working for the people who use it, so we can fix what doesn't and improve what does.
What's included: a random identifier generated for your installation of the app (not tied to your name, email, or any account — reinstalling the app generates a new one), the names and rough timing of events like the ones above, your app version and general platform (e.g. "iOS"), and small non-identifying details like a generic step name or a coarse time bucket. What's never included: anything you typed or chose during onboarding, your document details, your precise location, your IP address, or any text you enter anywhere in the app. We have no way to connect this data to your name or any other personal identity.
Where it's processed: on servers and databases located in the European Union, operated for us by infrastructure providers (Railway and Supabase). It is not sold, shared with advertisers, or used for cross-app or cross-service tracking, and is kept separate from any other app we make.
How long we keep it: raw usage events for up to 180 days, after which they are deleted. We may keep aggregated, non-identifying statistics (like "40% of installs complete onboarding") for longer, since these can't be traced back to any individual installation.
Your choice: this is on by default, but you can turn it off at any time in the app under Profile > Privacy > Anonymous analytics. Turning it off takes effect immediately — it stops new events from being recorded and discards anything already queued on your device that hasn't been sent yet. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding how ResideNL is used to process this data (rather than asking for consent up front), which is why the choice to opt out is always available and always respected.
We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email address, contacts, or precise location. The answers, task progress, and document details described above are never transmitted to us or to any third party — only the anonymous usage statistics described in "Anonymous product analytics" leave your device, and only if you haven't turned that off.
If you choose to set a reminder, ResideNL schedules a local notification on your device. These are handled by your device's operating system; no reminder content is sent to us.
ResideNL links out to official government and public websites (for example the IND, municipalities, the Belastingdienst, the RDW, and DigiD). When you follow a link you leave the app; those websites have their own privacy practices, which we don't control.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers. The onboarding answers, task progress, and document details you enter never leave your device, so there is nothing to share. Anonymous usage statistics are processed only by the infrastructure providers named above, on our behalf, and are never sold.
The information you enter remains on your device until you remove it — using "Start over" in the app, or by deleting the app. Uninstalling the app removes the data it stored on your device. Anonymous usage statistics already sent to us are kept for up to 180 days as described above, independently of what you do on your device; turning off analytics in Profile > Privacy stops new data from being sent but does not retroactively delete data already received.
ResideNL is intended for adults managing their own residency administration and is not directed at children.
If we change how the app handles information — for example if we later add optional accounts or sync — we will update this policy, change the date above, and ask for any consent the law requires before such features are enabled.
